News Topical, Digital Desk : North India is currently reeling under severe cold and dense fog. Minimum temperatures in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and the plains of Rajasthan hovered between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius, while dense fog severely reduced visibility.

Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh

This is disrupting road, rail, and air traffic. Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh has further intensified the cold.

Fog engulfs Delhi-UP

According to the India Meteorological Department ( IMD) , cold wave conditions in North India are expected to persist until December 28. Dense to very dense fog is forecast for Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in the morning and evening, reducing visibility to 50-100 meters in many areas. Minimum temperatures also dropped in Rajasthan, though some areas experienced some relief.

'Chillai Kalan' begins in Kashmir

Heavy snowfall and rain is expected in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the upper reaches of north-eastern Himachal Pradesh, increasing the risk of avalanches and snowstorms. Snowfall has blanketed the valley in Kashmir with the onset of 'Chillai Kalan', while in Himachal, snow accumulation on high passes has made the roads slippery.

Cold wave affects normal life

This cold wave is affecting travelers and general life. People are urged to wear warm clothing, exercise caution while driving, and monitor weather updates.

The weather in Mumbai and Goa is expected to be cool but pleasant in the last week of December. Daytime temperatures are expected to be 28-32 degrees Celsius, and nighttime temperatures are expected to be 18-22 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, the sky will be clear and there will be a light, cool breeze.
