Since independence, there have been three wars between India and Pakistan, but the Indus Water Treaty continued. But Pakistan, which nurtures terrorism, has not stopped its activities.

 

Now that India has withdrawn from the agreement, Pakistan has resorted to its usual threats. Pakistan has said that it will see this move of India as an initiation of war. But it is not just the Pakistani government that is scared. The people of Pakistan are also in fear.

 

Fear spread in Pakistan

Talking to news agency Reuters, Pakistani farmer Homla Thakur expressed concern about the future of his crops. He said that the water level of the river has gone down a lot. Vegetables are drying up. The farmer said that if India stops the water, the whole country will turn into the Thar desert. We will die of hunger.

On the Pakistani government's reaction, Waqar Ahmed, economist and team leader at UK consulting firm Oxford Policy Management, said Pakistan had underestimated the threat of India withdrawing from the treaty.

 

India is working on stopping water

  • Let us tell you that Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil has said that we will ensure that not even a single drop of water from the Indus River reaches Pakistan. An official, on the condition of anonymity, said that in a few months India will divert the water towards its fields using canals. However, it will take 4 to 7 years to complete the project of hydroelectric dams.
  • Pakistan's decision to stop water will not only affect agriculture. But the lack of water will also affect power generation and will give a big blow to the economy. Ghashrib Shaukat of Karachi research firm Pakistan Agricultural Research said that we have no option at this time.
