
News Topical, Digital Desk : Fierce military clashes on the border between Thailand and Cambodia have brought the two countries to the brink of war. Thailand's Health Ministry spokesman said that 15 people were killed in these clashes, including 14 civilians and one soldier, while 46 people were injured.
Cambodia has not yet reported any casualties. The violence began on Wednesday with a landmine explosion that injured five Thai soldiers. The incident further inflamed tensions between the two countries.
Thailand's Health Minister Somsak accused Cambodia of attacking civilians and a hospital. He said in a stern tone, "We urge the Cambodian government to immediately stop this and return to the path of peace."
There will be an emergency meeting at the UN
Thailand said more than 100,000 people have fled the border area in the bloodiest border fighting between Thailand and Cambodia in a decade.
News agency AFP has quoted diplomatic sources as saying that at the request of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the clashes on the border between the two countries. At the same time, the US has appealed to end the conflict as soon as possible.
