News Topical, Digital Desk : Iran has claimed to have shot down another US F-35 fighter jet. Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency also said the pilot's chances of survival are slim due to serious injuries.

However, there has been no confirmation from US Central Command. If these latest claims by Iran prove true, they would be considered a major retaliatory strike by Iran.

IRGC statement

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps released a video purportedly showing a missile hitting a plane mid-air. The IRGC said at the time that a US military F-35 strategic fighter jet was hit by the IRGC's advanced aerospace defense system in the skies over central Iran at 2:50 a.m. today and suffered serious damage.

The F-35 is one of America's most advanced stealth fighters, capable of evading radar and operating effectively in heavily guarded airspace. Damaging such an aircraft could undermine America's claim to stealth supremacy.

Second claim in two weeks

The claim comes nearly two weeks after Iran said it had targeted a US F-35 Lightning II aircraft, one of America's most expensive and advanced aircraft and considered the backbone of fifth-generation warfare capabilities.

US Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said the fifth-generation stealth jet was on a combat mission over Iran when it made an emergency landing. Hawkins said the plane landed safely and the pilot was in stable condition.
