Tamil Nadu: Southern Railway's statement on Chitteri passenger train accident

News Topical, Digital Desk : A passenger train has met with an accident in Chitteri, Tamil Nadu. However, no passenger was injured in this accident. Southern Railway says that no coach has derailed in this incident. However, eyewitnesses say that a very loud sound was heard. After this the loco pilot stopped the train. Due to this incident, there was chaos at Chitteri railway station in Ranipet district on Saturday night. It is said that the loco pilot of train number 66057, Arkonam-Katpadi MEMU passenger train heard an unusual sound and immediately stopped the train, averting a possible accident.

Initially it was said that the train had derailed, but Southern Railway has clarified that no coach of the train derailed. This incident happened on the Yard Road 1 loop line at Chitteri station. The railway said that repair work was being done on this track. In such a situation, there was no permission to run a train at a speed of more than 20 km per hour on this track. This incident happened when the train passed on this track.

No passenger was injured

The videos that emerged from the accident site after the train accident clearly showed the damaged portion of the track. According to people travelling in the train, a loud noise was heard soon after the train left Chitteri station. After this, the driver stopped the train. A senior police officer present at the accident site confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties.

There was already a fracture in the track

According to the statement of the railway, the loco pilot was already aware of the track. So he stopped the train as soon as he heard a loud sound. The incident happened around 9.15 pm on Friday night. When the loco pilot investigated to find out the reason for the loud sound, he found the track broken at one place. The railway said that there is a welding fracture at the place where the loco pilot found the track broken. This was already identified and as a precaution, it was fixed through joggle fish plates. However, after this incident, the railway will have to find a permanent solution for it.
