News Topical, Digital Desk : Following a Supreme Court order, a major crackdown took place in the Central Market of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning. Seven teams of the Housing Development Council, led by ADM City Brijesh Singh, sealed 44 illegal constructions. This action angered traders, and textile merchant Ashok Girdhar suffered a heart attack and was immediately hospitalized. Women from several of the traders' families were also seen crying at the scene.

Politics has now erupted over this incident. SP MLA Atul Pradhan accused the BJP government of oppression against all sections of society. People are deeply angry with the BJP government. BJP MLA Vineet Sharda also reached out to offer condolences.

Seals imposed on several establishments

The action began at Boxi Park at Awas Vikas Square, after which several establishments, including Sanford Hospital, PNB, IDBI Bank, Shanti Palace Pavilion, and Vardhman Hospital, were sealed. During this, traders protested and staged a sit-in on the road, which was then dispersed by the police. Amid the chaos, textile merchant Ashok Girdhar suffered a heart attack and was immediately hospitalized.

Meerut bandh announced

Meanwhile, in protest of the crackdown, the United Trade Union has announced a Meerut bandh on April 9. The administration is continuously taking action, citing the Supreme Court order, while traders are calling it wrong and demanding relief from the government.

Seeing the traders' attitude, the administration has made additional police and security arrangements. The entire area has been turned into a cantonment. Illegal encroachments are to be removed from the entire market. The matter was halted for a few days, but after the Supreme Court's strictness, action has been accelerated. The traders had hoped for some assistance from the BJP government.
