The Taliban government has issued a decree to close all clinics selling contraceptives. Doctors have also been strictly warned against prescribing contraceptives or inducing miscarriage.
Impact of Taliban decree on women
Under Taliban rule, women are unable to access contraceptives. Birth control pills are unavailable throughout Afghanistan. Doctors have also begun to give up. At the same time, 80 percent of women in Afghanistan are suffering from malnutrition due to the high number of children born at a young age. Anemia, vitamin deficiencies, and blood pressure have become common among women.
Shortage of female doctors and nurses
The Taliban came to power in Afghanistan on August 27, 2024, banning women over the age of 12 from education and restricting women from going out and working. Consequently, hospitals are facing a shortage of female doctors and nurses. Women are forced to give birth at home.

- Ban on displaying pictures of women on shop front boards
- Women cannot leave the house alone without a man.
- Women will not be given driving licenses.
- Wearing hijab will be mandatory for all women
- Women will cover their faces and bodies when leaving their homes and will refrain from speaking in public places.
