News Topical, Digital Desk : Recently, Nepal's youth (Gen Z) protested strongly against the country's government. The scale of the protests was such that KP Sharma Oli was forced to resign as Prime Minister.

The Nepalese government banned social media platforms, which enraged Gen Z members, who protested across the country and even vandalized government offices. The government ultimately reversed its decision, and Sushila Karki was appointed interim Prime Minister.

Why did the movement start in Peru?

This year, Gen Z protests were seen in many countries. Beginning in Indonesia, youth have now taken the lead in Peru. On September 27th, thousands of young people in the capital, Lima, chanted slogans and protested against President Dina Boluarte.

The demonstrations resulted in clashes between police and protesters. Police fired tear gas and resorted to lathicharge, prompting youths to throw stones. The protests began on September 20th following changes to the pension system.

The new rule requires everyone in Peru over the age of 18 to join a pension company. Furthermore, there has been long-standing public discontent against President Boluarte and the parliament.

In which countries has Gen Z performed so far?

Between August 31 and September 1 of this year, Indonesian youth protested against increased allowances for MPs. Eight people died in the protests. Following the protests, President Prabowo, under pressure, suspended the housing allowance.

On September 1st, youth in the Netherlands also protested. They were outraged by the government's support for Israel. Following the protests, the government promised to change its policy.

Between September 8 and 13, Nepal's youth protested vigorously. They surrounded Parliament and set fires to protest the social media ban and corruption. During these protests, 72 people were killed and 2,113 were injured.

On September 10, young people in France also staged strikes to protest budget cuts. However, the government remained unmoved.

From September 15th to 17th, Gen Z members in Timor-Leste protested against a plan to provide lifetime pensions and cars to MPs. The government was forced to withdraw the proposal under pressure, and the youth won.

September 21: Nearly 100,000 people mobilized in the Philippines to protest corruption in flood control. Two people died, 205 were injured, and 216 were arrested during the protest. Under pressure, the Senate Speaker-Chief was forced to resign.

On September 22, Gen Z blocked rail ports in Italy to protest the Gaza War. Young people are filled with anger.

On September 25th, protests were held in Madagascar against the electricity and water crisis and corruption. Five people died during the protests, angering young people.
