News Topical, Digital Desk : Following the outbreak of violence in Ladakh, police arrested social activist Sonam Wangchuk. He is being held in Jodhpur jail, far from Ladakh. He has been charged with inciting violence and under the National Security Act (NSA). Several serious allegations have been leveled against him. Meanwhile, his wife, Geetanjali, has offered an explanation on Sonam's behalf.

Geetanjali says that all the allegations against her are completely false and baseless. It has been more than 48 hours since Sonam Wangchuk's arrest. He had been on a hunger strike demanding statehood for Ladakh.

Sonam is accused of inciting people by giving inflammatory speeches during the hunger strike and violence broke out in Leh, in which 4 people were killed and more than 50 people were injured.

What did Geetanjali say?

According to Sonam Wangchuk's wife Geetanjali, Sonam Wangchuk has been targeted ever since he started demanding the statehood of Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule, four years ago.

Sonam's NGO accused of taking foreign funding

Sonam Wangchuk runs two NGOs in Ladakh: the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL) and the Student Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL).

SECMOL was licensed under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). However, the NGO's license was revoked last week following the Ladakh violence.

What did she say on the Pakistan connection?

Responding to Sonam Wangchuk's connection to Pakistan, Geetanjali says, "If this is true, then it's the Home Ministry's biggest failure. A Pakistani spy was roaming around here, so what was the Home Ministry doing? They failed in their job. I want answers from them."
