However, if you are a patient of high blood pressure, can this habit be harmful for you?
This question often comes to the mind of those who suffer from hypertension or heart diseases. Many times we think, "What will happen with a cup of tea?", but in the eyes of doctors, this is not a trivial matter. According to Dr. Bimal Chhajed, the effect of tea on the body can affect our blood pressure to a great extent.
The connection between caffeine and blood pressure
Caffeine found in tea is a stimulant, which can temporarily increase blood pressure. Dr. Bimal Chhajed explains that there are some people whose body is more sensitive to caffeine. In such people, a slight increase in blood pressure can be seen immediately after drinking tea.
Can people with high blood pressure drink tea?
- According to Dr. Chhajed, instead of completely giving up tea, blood pressure patients should pay attention to its quantity and type.
- Taking 1 cup of tea a day can be considered safe.
- Black tea or green tea are low in caffeine and green tea also contains more antioxidants, which makes it good for the heart.
- Herbal teas like tulsi, ginger or cinnamon tea can also be beneficial as they help in controlling BP naturally.
What things should one keep in mind?
- Do not drink tea on an empty stomach: This can cause acidity and heartbeat problems.
- Avoid salty or fried snacks with tea: This increases sodium levels and can worsen blood pressure.
- Do not drink tea before sleeping at night: This affects sleep and lack of sleep can also increase BP.
