News Topical, Digital Desk : Uttarkashi cloudburst live updates: Officials have confirmed that the ancient Kalpa Kedar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Uttarkashi has been buried under debris following flash floods triggered by a cloudburst on Tuesday. The ancient Kalpa Kedar temple also got buried under debris caused by the flash floods, reports news agency PTI. Built in the Katura architectural style, the temple bore a striking resemblance to the Kedarnath Dham and was discovered in 1945 during a deep excavation. It was partially underground, where devotees would descend several feet to worship. The water from the river flowing here naturally flowed towards the Shivling, which was shaped like the back of Nandi, similar to the design of the sanctum sanctorum of the Kedarnath temple, the report said.

History of Kalpa Kedar

This temple dedicated to Mahadev Shivji is called 'Kalp Kedar Dham' and it has its own history. The style, structure of this temple is similar to Kedarnath Dham and just like the history of Kedarnath Dham is that during the Ice Age, this temple was buried in snow for four hundred years, similarly the Kalp Kedar temple was either buried in the ground due to flood or some such disaster, or it was lost and long ago this temple was found during excavation and since then worship was being done in this temple.

The temple was found during excavation

According to the local people, most of this temple was buried under the ground and people used to go down deep inside to worship the Lord in the temple. In the sanctum sanctorum of this temple, where the Shivling was below the ground, people removed the soil around it and made a way to enter the temple. It is said that when the temple was seen in the excavation after 1945, it is believed that this temple is one of the 240 lost temple groups, which disappeared due to geographical changes from time to time. It is also claimed that this temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya.
