News Topical, Digital Desk : The Association for the Blind in Himachal Pradesh has threatened a fierce protest against the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government. They have announced a road blockade on December 3rd and a siege of the Chief Minister's official residence, Oak Over, on December 4th. They have also threatened self-immolation if their demands are not met.
The Blind People's Association of Himachal Pradesh has been staging a sit-in protest in Shimla for the past 764 days, protesting their demands. The organization has been protesting outside the Secretariat in the bitter cold, under the open sky for a month now, but the government has yet to address their demands. Consequently, the Blind Association has once again threatened to block roads, surround the Chief Minister's official residence, and even commit self-immolation.
'Sukhu government has also become blind'
Members of the Blind People's Organization said, "They've been on the streets for more than two years, but the state government of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has also become blind. No representative is taking care of them. Therefore, a road blockade will be held on December 3rd, World Disability Day."
'Will not back down until demands are met'
The members further said, "If things still don't work out, we will surround Oak Over on December 4th and will not leave until the state government accepts their demands. If things still don't work out, we will not hesitate to pour petrol on ourselves and commit suicide."
What are the demands of the Blind People's Organization?
It should be noted that the Blind People's Organization is demanding that the backlog of vacant blindness quota positions in various departments be filled in one go. Several rounds of talks have been held with the government, but no positive results have yet been achieved. Consequently, the organization, which has been based in Shimla for over two years, has now declared a fight to the finish.
