Recently, when Dharmendra fell ill, he took time out from his shooting and busy schedule and immediately went to meet him. Amitabh Bachchan drove the car himself to see his elder brother and friend Dharmendra, but do you know that this friendship started years ago and this friendship also gave many memorable films to Hindi cinema.

This is how Dharmendra-Amitabh's friendship began

Many people believe that Amitabh and Dharmendra 's friendship began on the set of the 1975 film Sholay, but that's not true. Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan's friendship began on the set of Chupke Chupke. In fact, Dharmendra was Amitabh's senior at the time. Amitabh made his film debut in 1969, while Dharmendra had entered films as early as 1960.

In such a situation, Dharmendra, besides being a senior actor, was also older than Amitabh. Amitabh and Dharmendra's friendship began on the set of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's film Chupke Chupke. Initially, Amitabh respected Dharmendra like a senior actor on the set, but when Dharmendra, in his desi style, called Amitabh his younger brother and extended a hand of friendship, their friendship began on the set of this film.

Sholay gave recognition to Jai-Veeru

After Chupke Chupke, Amitabh and Dharmendra appeared together in Sholay. This film, as it were, cemented Amitabh and Dharmendra's off-screen and on-screen pairing as a blockbuster. Sholay's Jai-Veeru remained a popular star in theaters, and Sholay's name remained on everyone's lips. That's why this classic film remains unmatched even today.

After working on Sholay, Amitabh and Dharmendra's friendship deepened. It is said that Dharmendra got Amitabh the role of Jai in the film. In fact, in an interview, Dharmendra had recommended Dharmendra's name to Ramesh Sippy for the film. This led to Amitabh getting the role of Veeru in Sholay.

When Dharmendra was haunted by the memories of his Amit

In 2020, Dharmendra shared a post on social media. This photo was from the set of the film Sholay, in which Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan were seen as Jai and Veeru. Sharing this photo, Dharmendra wrote, “A picture that tells memories, a picture whose memories have become the world.”

This photo brought back memories of Jai and Veeru. He also shared another photo on Friendship Day, also from the sets of Sholay. Sharing this photo, Dharmendra wrote, "The world will remember this filmy friendship."

In addition to Sholay and Chupke Chupke, the two worked together in films like Ram Balram, Hum Kaun Hain, and Andha Kanoon. Although some of the films were cameo appearances, Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan have been seen together on numerous occasions over time. They have been seen together many times. A few years ago, they were seen together at a reunion of the Sholay cast, where Dharmendra lavishly praised Amitabh Bachchan.

Dharmendra once said, "Our Amit has become the engine of the entire industry. We all follow him like a chu-chu-chu. I try to be like him, but what can I do? This young kid of ours just doesn't stop. Today we find out he did this, tomorrow we find out he'll do that. He just keeps doing something or the other."
