This day is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Shailputri, the daughter of the Himalayas and the first form of Goddess Durga. This day marks the beginning of this nine-day Mahavrat (great fast) with the installation of the Kalash. It is said that observing this fast (Shardiya Navratri 2025) bestows the blessings of Goddess Durga and brings auspiciousness into life.
Puja Vidhi (Shardiya Navratri 2025 Day 1st Puja Vidhi)
- Kalash Sthapana has special significance on the first day of Sharadiya Navratri.
- Spread a red cloth on a stool.
- Sow barley in an earthen pot.
- Fill a pot with Ganga water and put betel nut, durva grass, Akshat and coins in it.
- Place mango leaves on the mouth of the Kalash and place a coconut on it.
- Place the Kalash on top of the barley pot.
- Invoke Goddess Durga and worship her duly for nine days.
- Some devotees observe fast for nine days during this period.
- Perform Aarti of Goddess Durga with devotion every morning and evening.
Auspicious time for Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana Muhurat)
According to the Vedic calendar, the auspicious time for Ghatasthapana on September 22nd will be from 6:09 AM to 8:06 AM. Meanwhile, the Abhijit Muhurta will be from 11:49 AM to 12:38 PM. Devotees can also perform Ghatasthapana during this time.
Offer these things to Mother Shailputri
Mother Shailputri loves the color white, so wearing white clothes on this day is considered auspicious.
Offer the Goddess roli, rice grains, vermilion, incense, lamps, and flowers. Also, remember to include a red hibiscus flower or any other white flower in your puja for Goddess Shailputri.
Mother Shailputri Dear Bhog (Shardiya Navratri 2025 Day 1st Bhog)
Goddess Shailputri is offered food items made from cow ghee. You can offer her sweets or halwa made with ghee. In many places, white pedas or white burfi are also offered to the Goddess.

Worshiping Goddess Shailputri brings stability and strength to devotees. Along with the Kalash installation, this festival gives us the opportunity to worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga.
