SC: 'My marriage was forced upon me, cancel it', Supreme Court to hear minor's petition today:

News Topical, Digital Desk : The Supreme Court will hear on Wednesday the petition of a minor girl. In the petition, she has demanded protest against child marriage, annulment of her marriage and protection of her life from danger.

A bench of Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice Manmohan will hear the petition of the minor. The petitioner has accused her husband of pressuring her for marriage and has sought directions against him as well.

It was alleged in the petition of the minor

The minor's plea alleged that she was married against her will on December 9, 2024, when she was 16 and a half years old. She claimed that she wanted to study further but was being held captive by her father-in-law even though he had promised to allow her to return to her parents.

The petition states that the present writ petition has been filed by a minor petitioner aged 16 and a half years through her friend. In the petition, she has stated that her life is in danger because of her opposition to continuing in a child marriage.

Minor's parents forced her to marry

The minor claimed that she is currently absconding with a friend and fears that they will be killed if they return to Bihar. The girl said that her parents forcefully married her to a man of 32 or 33 years six months ago and sent her away soon after the marriage, while her tenth board exams were near.

This is said in the petition

The petition said that her in-laws claimed that they had given and spent a lot of money for the marriage and repeatedly told her that they wanted a child. She also sought direction to the authorities to ensure the safety of herself and her friend.
