News Topical, Digital Desk : Following the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, tensions remain high in the Middle East, and Iran has virtually closed the Strait of Hormuz. This has led to a global fuel shortage. And, in India, the clouds of crisis are also looming.
In many places across the country, people are lining up for LPG cylinders. Black marketing and hoarding have also begun. However, the government and oil companies maintain that there is no fuel shortage in the country and are providing constant updates to the public.
Energy supplies from the Middle East have been disrupted. Iran's occupation of the Strait of Hormuz has affected gas and oil imports, although several ships have returned to India and the situation is now returning to normal.
However, LPG is still facing problems in many places. In some areas, cylinders are not arriving on time, and in others, delivery is facing difficulties.
Some consumers are complaining that they are being charged arbitrary amounts or the cylinder is being shown as delivered without actually delivering it.
In such a situation, the government is also taking measures to overcome any future crisis. The government is emphasizing the use of PNG instead of LPG.
There are many households in India that have both PNG and LPG connections. There are reports that the government is sending alerts to such residents, urging them to surrender their LPG connections if they have PNG connections. Failure to do so could result in the connection being disconnected.
The government has taken several steps to ensure the supply of cooking gas, primarily prioritizing cooking gas over commercial gas and ordering oil companies to increase LPG production. Furthermore, the government is importing gas through various routes other than the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police conducted a major operation in the Sangam Vihar area and busted an illegal LPG racket. Police recovered a total of 183 cylinders from the warehouses of delivery agents, including 154 full and 29 empty.
