
News Topical, Digital Desk : The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert on Sunday (August 3) warning of torrential rain and lightning in four states. Issuing a red alert in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal and Sikkim, the IMD has warned of very heavy rain. At the same time, an orange alert has been issued in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Kerala, Tamil Nadu. The weather is expected to be normal in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. A yellow alert has been issued regarding rain in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Northeast and adjoining East India during the next 7 days. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Meghalaya Arunachal Pradesh are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall on August 3. Tamil Nadu and Kerala may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 6-7 days. Extremely heavy rainfall warning has been issued over Ghat areas of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on August 5. Rainfall is likely to reduce over Central India next week.
Drizzle expected in Delhi
Forecasting light rain or drizzle, the IMD said Delhi will remain cloudy and may receive light rain on Sunday. The IMD said the maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was recorded at 33.7 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.7 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees below normal. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 84 at 6 pm on Saturday, which falls in the "satisfactory" category.
'Orange alert' in all districts of Kerala
Kerala is expected to receive heavy rains and strong winds in the next few days, in view of which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange Alert' for several districts till August 6. The IMD said on Saturday that an area of cyclonic winds has developed at an altitude of 5.8 km over South Tamil Nadu and the Gulf of Mannar. As a result, moderate to heavy rains are expected in various parts of Kerala for the next five days. The Meteorological Department said that 'Orange Alert' has been issued in four districts for August 3, followed by three on August 4, 10 on August 5 and six districts on August 6.
Ganga water level rises in Varanasi
The water level of the Ganga river in Varanasi has reached the danger mark. The water level was 71.31 at 12 o'clock on Saturday night. Whereas the danger mark in Kashi is 71.26. The water level of the Ganga is still increasing at the rate of 3 centimeters per hour.
