News Topical, Digital Desk : For the past few days, relations between America and India have become a little sour. The reason is the unilateral order of US President Donald Trump regarding tariff.
He announced a 50 percent tariff on India just because our country buys oil from Russia. Trump says that by trading with Russia, India is helping it in the war against Ukraine.
On one hand, while America took action against India for doing trade with Russia, on the other hand, on August 15, US President Trump himself said that during his second term, i.e. Trump 2.0, trade between the US and Russia has increased by 20 percent.
Putin exposed Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin also gave his reaction on US-Russia trade. During the summit in Alaska, Putin said, "Incidentally, when the new administration came to power in the US, bilateral trade started to grow. It is still very symbolic, yet our growth rate is 20%."
He further said that it is clear that there is immense potential in investment and business cooperation between America and Russia and there are opportunities ranging from trade, digital, high technology to space exploration.
What did Priyanka Chaturvedi say?
Many Indian politicians have expressed their displeasure over America's double standards. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote in a social media post, “According to Putin, US-Russia bilateral gas trade has increased by 20%. China's share in Russia's export market is 32%, EU's is 62%. EU's LNG imports from Russia will reach a record 17.8 million tonnes in 2024, but guess who will bear the burden of the high tariff bill? This is not trade, but selective bullying.”
India's blunt answer on Trump's decision
Let us tell you that India has not only expressed its displeasure over America's action of buying oil from Russia, but the Foreign Ministry has also responded to America in strong words. The Foreign Ministry has called Trump's move inappropriate.
At the same time, the Ministry categorically stated that despite America's tough stance, countries like China and the European Union are continuing to import Russian oil in large quantities without facing any penalty, while India has had to bear the brunt of extra tariffs.
