News Topical, Digital Desk : The US city of Los Angeles is burning. The reason is that US officials raided the city to stop illegal immigration and dozens of people were arrested. The population of Los Angeles, located in the US state of California, is extremely diverse.
Los Angeles is considered the stronghold of America's richest and most powerful people. 56 percent of the population of this city speaks English as well as Spanish. Violence did not erupt in such a posh area of America without any reason.
Many people were arrested
It began on Friday, when Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Los Angeles raided Latino-populated areas and arrested several people they accused of being illegal migrants and gang members.
After this, the people of the city became furious and started shouting slogans against the officers. People protested by throwing eggs at them. After this, the agency dispersed the crowd by firing pepper spray and tear gas shells to control this protest.
Protests continue for 5 days
- This action further inflamed the crowd's anger and protests have been going on in the city for the last 5 days. The Trump administration has deployed 700 Marines and more than 4000 National Guard troops. But the protests are not stopping.
- According to a USA Today report, more than half of the citizens of Los Angeles are of foreign origin. Out of these, 1.89 million identify themselves as Latin, 0.5 million are Asian, Hawaiian and Pacific Islander. Let us tell you that after Donald Trump came to power, a massive crackdown is being carried out against illegal immigrants.
