
News Topical, Digital Desk : Roorkee News: A 55-year-old assistant professor has been arrested for allegedly molesting 12 girl students at a government degree college in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, police said on Friday. Police said a complaint filed by a victim said Dr Abdul Aleem Asnari allegedly touched the girl students inappropriately during the oral examination of the BSc practical exam on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place in a closed room.
Inspector-in-charge of Ganganagar police station R.K. Saklani said Ansari also allegedly wrote his mobile number on the palm of a student and asked her to call him after going home at night. After coming out of the room, when one of the victims shared her ordeal, other students also revealed that the professor had touched them inappropriately.
Assistant professor threatened to deduct marks
According to the complaint, when the students lodged a protest against this, Ansari allegedly threatened to deduct their marks. Enraged by this, the students protested demanding strict action against the professor. The accused teaches in another college in Bhagwanpur near Roorkee.
After the protest, the college management reported the matter to the police to pacify the agitated girl students. Inspector in-charge Saklani said that a victim lodged a complaint in this regard on the basis of which Ansari was arrested. During interrogation, Ansari admitted that he had touched the girls, but he said that he had no wrong intention behind it.
Police took the professor into custody.
According to the police, Ansari could not give any satisfactory answer as to why he had written his mobile number on the palm of a student. Meanwhile, college officials said that both the practical exams taken by Ansari on Wednesday and Thursday have been cancelled.
