News Topical, Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Pongal. He visited the home of Union Minister L. Murugan and performed puja (worship) with all the rituals.

While congratulating all the countrymen on Pongal, the Prime Minister said that this festival shows the way to establish balance between nature, family and society.

PM Modi celebrated Pongal festival

PM Modi performed puja according to Tamil customs on the occasion of the festival. He then fed fodder to a cow and a calf and garlanded them and worshipped them.

Explaining the significance of the festival, the Prime Minister said, “This festival (Pongal) shows the way to establish a balance between nature, family, and society. Currently, there is an atmosphere of excitement in various parts of the country regarding Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, and other festivals. My heartfelt greetings to all my Tamil brothers and sisters in India and around the world for Pongal and all the festivals.”

Tamil culture is the heritage of entire India.

On the occasion of Pongal, Prime Minister Modi said, "It was also a very pleasant experience for me that last year I had the opportunity to participate in many programs related to Tamil culture. I worshipped at the thousand-year-old Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple in Tamil Nadu. During the Kashi Tamil Sangam in Varanasi, I was connected to the energy of cultural unity every moment."

The Prime Minister further said, "When I visited Rameswaram to inaugurate the Pamban Bridge, I once again witnessed the greatness of Tamil history. Our Tamil culture is the shared heritage of all India. Not only that, it is the shared heritage of all humanity. The spirit of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' that I speak of is further strengthened by festivals like Pongal."
