News Topical, Digital Desk : The plight of minorities in the Islamic country of Pakistan can be gauged from the fact that not only is there no one to stop the atrocities against non-Muslim minor girls, but even in the courts where the victimized minorities go in the hope of getting justice, they face grave injustice.

The latest example is this minor Christian girl. A federal court in Pakistan has released a 13-year-old Christian girl to her Muslim abductor, who had forcibly converted her to Islam and then married her. A Muslim man forcibly converted a minor girl, Maria Shahbaz, to Islam and then married her.

The judges did not accept the birth certificate presented by Maria Shahbaz's parents, which proved her age. Safdar Chaudhry, president of the rights group Rah-e-Nijat Ministry, said the judges also rejected earlier judicial findings that the marriage was invalid.

Parents upset by decision

The parents of the now 13-year-old girl are distraught by the court's decision. Shahbaz Masih, a driver by profession, said his neighbor abducted Maria Shahbaz on July 29 last year while she was walking to a nearby shop. Since then, her family has repeatedly sought judicial intervention to find her.

Minorities are victims every year

Every year, around 1,000 girls from religious minorities (mainly Hindus and Christians) in Pakistan face abduction, rape, forced marriage to their abductors, conversion to Islam and various other forms of abuse.''
