
News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan is furious after the Indus Water Treaty was suspended. A minister of Shehbaz Sharif ( Shehbaz Sharif on India) has threatened that if the agreement is not reinstated then Pakistan will violate the ceasefire.
At the same time, India has clearly stated that the agreement will remain suspended as long as Pakistan continues to carry out cross-border terrorism.
In this connection, while addressing the plenary session of the first United Nations Conference on Glaciers held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan on Friday, Minister of State for Environment, Kirti Vardhan Singh said that Pakistan itself is violating this treaty through terrorism.
‘Pakistan itself violated the agreement’
He said that it is an undeniable truth that since the signing of the Indus Water Treaty, there have been tremendous changes in circumstances, which necessitate reconsideration of the terms of the treaty.
Kirti Vardhan Singh said that it is clearly mentioned in the preamble of this treaty that it was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship, and it is mandatory to implement it honestly. Pakistan is violating this treaty on its own and is blaming India for it.
What is Pakistan saying on the suspension of the water treaty?
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had said that his country will not allow India to cross the 'red line' and due to the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, the lives of crores of people have been put in danger.
Earlier, Pakistani MP Syed Ali Zafar had expressed uneasiness over the Indus Water Treaty a few days ago.
He had said that if the crisis is not resolved, a large population could die of hunger. The Indus basin is our lifeline. Three-fourth of our water comes from outside the country. Nine out of every ten people are making their living on international border basins.
