News Topical, Digital Desk : The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a cleric. The ATS claims the man is a member of the banned Afghan terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The ATS arrested him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The man has been identified as Maulana Osama Umar, a resident of Barmer, Rajasthan. The ATS claimed that he worked in Sanchore. He and four other people were detained on Saturday. Umar was arrested on Wednesday after five days of interrogation.

Rajasthan ATS arrests TTP terrorist

The ATS claims that Osama was pressuring four other suspects to join the terrorist organization. Osama is accused of using internet calling to communicate with top terrorist commanders. Two phones have also been recovered from him.

The ATS's initial investigation found no evidence of funding or financial transactions. The investigation also revealed that Omar was planning to flee to Afghanistan soon.

Accused of inciting youth for jihad

According to NDTV, ATS Additional Director General MN Dinesh said, "The Maulana was trying to radicalize other arrested individuals, who themselves were not in contact with any terror network. The Maulana also had plans to flee to Afghanistan via Dubai, but he was caught in time." ATS Inspector General Vikas Kumar said that Umar was inspired by "jihadi thinking."

The others arrested include Masood, Mohammad Ayub, Mohammad Junaid, and Baseer. Except for Umar, all the others were not in contact with any terror network outside India. Three of the five individuals questioned by the ATS were from the sensitive border area of ​​Barmer.
