News Topical, Digital Desk : A 22-year-old YouTuber from Odisha's Brahmapur town has been missing for five days after he was swept away by strong currents of Duduma waterfalls in Koraput district while making a reel, police said on Wednesday. A senior police official said a team of disaster management and fire personnel were involved in the search operation but the YouTuber is yet to be traced.

The YouTuber had gone to make a reel at the waterfall on August 23

According to the police, YouTuber Sagar Kundu had gone to Duduma waterfall with his friends to make reels on August 23. Despite repeated warnings from his friends about the rising water level, Kundu entered the waterfall. Citing a video of the incident that went viral on social media, the police said, "Due to the release of water from Machkund dam, the flow of water suddenly increased. Kundu was swept away by the strong currents and people present at the spot tried to save him but they failed."

The YouTuber's friend Abhijeet Behera said, "Kundu was pleading with folded hands to save him. He threw away the camera and other equipment, but we could not save him." Sagar's father Sarthak Kundu requested the local administration to trace his son.

Machkund police station in-charge inspector (IIC) Madhusudan Bhoi said a team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and Lamataput fire service personnel have launched a search operation. "We have so far recovered a bag containing batteries and other equipment which the YouTuber had thrown into the water moments before he was swept away. The rescue operation in the hilly area has been challenging due to the rugged and rocky terrain and incessant rain," the IIC said.

Duduma is one of the highest waterfalls in Odisha

Fire officer Umesh Chandra Bagh said, "We have requested the Machkund dam authorities to close the reservoir gates. Once the water level recedes, it will help us in the search operation." Duduma is one of the highest waterfalls in Odisha and a popular tourist destination located near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border.
