News Topical, Digital Desk : Non-vegetarian food options will soon be included in the menu of the country's first Vande Bharat sleeper train running between Howrah-Kamakhya.
An Eastern Railway (ER) official gave this information on Tuesday. A section of passengers had raised objections over the serving of only vegetarian food on this night train, which runs six days a week.
An Eastern Railway official said that non-vegetarian food options are likely to be available in the menu of the Vande Bharat sleeper train within a week. Union Minister of State for Education and former Bengal BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar has said that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has assured him that non-vegetarian food options will also be available in the Vande Bharat sleeper train.
People in Bengal and Assam are largely non-vegetarian, so such dishes will be served on the Vande Bharat sleeper train. Prime Minister Modi flagged off the train on January 17. It began its regular commercial service on January 22 from Guwahati's Kamakhya station and the next day from Howrah.
Railways also assured that the food served in Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will be rich in local flavours i.e. the train departing from Kamakhya will have Assamese cuisine and the train departing from Howrah will have local dishes of Bengal.
Non-vegetarian dishes, including fish and meat, play a major role in the local cuisine of both Bengal and Assam. Other premium railway trains, such as the Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, and Vande Bharat trains, already offer non-vegetarian meal options to passengers.
