News Topical, Digital Desk : French President Emmanuel Macron began his speech at the India AI Impact Summit on Thursday with a "Namaste" (greeting) and praising India. He said India has created something no other country can.

Macron began his India tour in Mumbai. A video of him walking at night at Mumbai's CST station went viral. During his summit speech, he recounted the story of a street vendor in Mumbai. He described how the rapid expansion of digital payment systems in India had transformed his life.

He said, "10 years ago, a roadside vendor in Mumbai couldn't open a bank account. No address, no papers, no access... Today, the same vendor takes payments on his phone. This isn't a technology story, it's a civilization story."

20 billion transactions now take place in India every month: Macron

At a five-day summit with AI business leaders, innovators and policymakers in Delhi, Macron praised India's rapid progress in adopting this new technology.

Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Macron said, "India has created something that no other country in the world can create. A digital identity for 1.4 billion people, a payment system that now processes 20 billion transactions every month, a health infrastructure that has issued 500 million digital health IDs."
