News Topical, Digital Desk : On Sunday, Donald Trump of the United States welcomed Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky to his Florida estate for crucial talks on ending the war with Russia. The two leaders stood outside the Mar-a-Lago resort and addressed reporters.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine war are in the final stages. "I think we're in the final stages of negotiations, and we'll see. Otherwise, it's going to be a very, very long time," Trump said. He also said he had no deadline for the process.
'There will be a strong agreement for Ukraine's security'
Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was very serious about peace. He further stated that there would be a strong agreement to guarantee Ukraine's security, which would involve European countries. He said that he had a productive conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin just hours before his meeting with Zelensky.
Trump also said, "Russia wants Ukraine to succeed. This may sound a little strange, but I was explaining to the President, President Putin was very generous with his support for Ukraine's success, including providing energy, electricity and other things at very low prices. So a lot of good things came out of that call today."
What did Zelensky say?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, "We had excellent discussions on all topics and we appreciate the progress made by the US and Ukrainian teams over the past few weeks. We discussed all aspects of the peace framework. There is 90 percent agreement on the 20-point peace plan. There is 100 percent agreement on the US-Ukraine security guarantees and almost agreement on the US-Europe-Ukraine security guarantees. There is 100 percent agreement on the military dimension."
He added, "The prosperity plan is being finalized and we also discussed the course of action going forward. We agree that security guarantees are a key milestone in achieving lasting peace and our teams will continue to work on all aspects. Ukraine is ready for peace."
