New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit India, it is being said that he may come to India by the end of this year. Ukrainian Ambassador to India Oleksandr Polishchuk has given this information.

The Ukrainian ambassador further said, Prime Minister Modi invited my President to visit India and I hope this will happen. Perhaps by the end of this year, we will be happy to see President Zelensky here, although the date has not been decided yet when he will come to India. This will mark another step forward in our bilateral relations. It will provide a great opportunity for both leaders to spend more time discussing the peace-building process around the world.

'Zelensky is looking forward to visiting India'

The Ukrainian envoy also referred to Zelensky's recent visit to Ukraine, saying PM Modi's visit was also short due to security concerns. Here the two leaders will have more time for discussions, adding, "I know of course that President Zelensky is very keen to visit India. He has never been here. The visit will take place at a convenient time for both sides," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine on August 23 this year at the invitation of Ukrainian President Zelensky. This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992.

In a joint statement issued at the end of the visit, Prime Minister Modi and President Zelensky reiterated their readiness for further cooperation in upholding the principles of international law, including the UN Charter, such as respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. They agreed on close bilateral dialogue in this regard.
