News Topical, Digital Desk : An American woman has alleged sexual assault at a homestay in Karnataka. She claims she was given a sweet drink laced with drugs and then raped. Based on the complaint, police have arrested the homestay owner and an employee.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Brijesh Kumar, a resident of Jharkhand and a homestay worker, allegedly raped the woman after drugging her. The incident reportedly occurred at a homestay in Kutta village, Kodagu district, Karnataka.
There were also allegations of attempts to suppress the incident.
A case has also been filed against the homestay owner, who allegedly tried to hush up the incident and shut down the Wi-Fi service for three days to prevent the woman from contacting anyone.
After the Wi-Fi was restored, the woman managed to escape, pretending to be on her way to Mysore. She then reported the incident to the US Embassy. The Embassy then notified the Mysore police via email, and a case was registered.
Both the accused are in judicial custody
The Kodagu Superintendent of Police stated that a case of sexual assault against a foreign woman has been registered at the Kutta police station. Both accused have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody until May 3. Police are investigating the matter further.
