New Delhi: The situation in Tripura has become grim due to incessant rains and floods. 22 people have died and two others are missing in the floods. There has also been heavy damage to infrastructure, crops and livestock. 65,400 people have taken shelter in 450 relief camps in the state as their houses have been damaged due to heavy rains.

Nearly 1.7 million people have been affected by floods in the northeastern state. Chief Minister Manik Saha announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those killed. The Center has approved the release of Rs 40 crore for flood-hit Tripura. Soldiers in lifeboats evacuated people to safer places in India's northeastern state of Tripura on Friday after heavy rains triggered floods and landslides, officials said.

The rain stopped

Cars and buses were stranded on roads in knee-deep water. The situation has shown some signs of improvement since Friday morning, with heavy rains subsiding on Thursday, leading to a decrease in the water level of major rivers, including Gumti, Khowai, Feni, which were in spate. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said Tripura has adequate stock of food items and fuel despite the severe floods in the northeastern state.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Udaipur, Amarpur and Karbuk regions and also visited several relief camps. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Centre has deployed 11 NDRF teams, three Army columns and four IAF helicopters to assist the state government in flood relief and rescue operations.

The Home Minister said that no matter what happens, our brothers and sisters in Tripura will find the Modi government standing shoulder to shoulder with them in this difficult time. Earlier, Shah had spoken to Chief Minister Manik Saha over the phone to take stock of the flood situation in the state and assured him of all possible help from the Center.

13 people died in flood in Bangladesh

Floods in parts of Bangladesh have killed 13 people. Lakhs of people have been affected and many families have been displaced. According to a report, about 44 lakh people have been affected by floods in 11 out of the total 64 districts of the country. Floods and landslides caused by heavy rains and water flow from the hills have caused heavy damage to houses, crops, roads and highways in many parts of the country. Many centers have been set up for relief and rescue. About 200,000 people have taken shelter at these centers.
