The Prime Minister wrote on his official Twitter account that 26th July is a very special day for every Indian. We will celebrate the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas. This is a day to pay tribute to all those who protect our nation. I will visit the Kargil War Memorial and pay tribute to our brave heroes.
The Shinku La tunnel project is very important
Along with this, he said that work will also start for the Shinku La tunnel project. This project is important to improve connectivity to Leh during bad weather. Let us tell you that this tunnel is important in many ways. This tunnel will be the third and safest option to transport logistics to the border.
At present, the first option for Leh Ladakh is Zojila Pass, which is adjacent to the Pakistan border and the second option is Baralacha Pass, which is adjacent to the China border. Now this third route has been made through the tunnel at Shinku La Pass.
The Srinagar-Kargil highway was the enemy's target
During the Kargil war of 1999, the Srinagar-Kargil highway was the direct target of the enemy. The enemy sitting on the peaks could easily target the highway. This is the reason why the need for an alternative highway was felt to connect the country to Ladakh.
This tunnel being built at a height of 15,800 feet on the Nemo-Padam-Darcha road built in Himachal will be the world's highest tunnel. This twin-bube tunnel which will be completed by the year 2025 will be 4.1 kilometers long. The Nemo-Padam-Darcha road is just 298 kilometers away from Manali in Himachal Pradesh. As the distance of Manali-Leh road is 428 km and Srinagar-Leh is 439 km, this will be the shortest route to reach Leh.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every year on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay in 1999. During this conflict, Indian forces successfully recaptured strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani troops and militants.
