New Delhi: A mastermind of an international gold smuggling gang was brought back to India from the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday by the CBI with the help of the NIA and Interpol. Muniyad Ali Khan is the third fugitive in the case to be successfully brought back to India. Muniyad Ali was arrested by the NIA at the Jaipur airport, officials said. The CBI said he was wanted since 2020.
A CBI spokesperson said that during the NIA investigation, it was alleged that Muniad along with other accused had conspired for illegal smuggling of gold bricks from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to India.
Brought back from Saudi Arabia with the help of Interpol
Two accused in the case, Shokat Ali and Mohabbat Ali, were brought back from Saudi Arabia by the CBI with the help of Interpol on April 3, 2024 and August 17, 2023 respectively.
Gold bars seized at Jaipur airport
The NIA said that gold bars weighing 18.56 kg and worth Rs 9 crore being smuggled into the country from Saudi Arabia were seized at Jaipur airport in 2020 as part of a criminal conspiracy to derail the country's economic security and monetary stability. In this case, a chargesheet was filed by the NIA before the Special Court, Jaipur on March 22, 2021.
