New Delhi: The Kolkata doctor rape-murder case was heard again in the Supreme Court on Monday. During this, the CBI submitted the status report of the investigation so far in the court. Along with this, the court asked many other important questions related to the case.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice JB Pardiwala was hearing the case. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal was representing the Bengal government in the case, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared in court on behalf of the CBI.
Chief Justice reprimanded the lawyer
During the hearing, the Chief Justice also reprimanded a lawyer for speaking in a loud voice. He told the lawyer to keep his voice down. In fact, during the debate, Kapil Sibal said that he has videos and photographs to prove that the lawyers were pelting stones in protest against the August 9 incident at the government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The lawyer's name is Kaushal Bagchi and he is also said to be a BJP leader. Responding to Sibal's allegation of stone pelting, the lawyer asked how can a senior lawyer make such statements in the court. On this, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud got angry and said, are you trying to address the gallery outside the court?
The lawyer apologized
The Chief Justice reprimanded the lawyer and said that I have been observing your conduct for the last two hours. The Chief Justice said, 'Can you lower your voice first? Listen to the Chief Justice, lower your voice. You are addressing the three judges in front of you, not the large audience who are watching these proceedings on the video conferencing platform.' After this the lawyer apologized to the bench.
After this, when the arguments of the lawyers resumed, the Chief Justice said that I am not used to this kind of advocacy, where 7-8 people are arguing at the same time. Trinamool Congress also targeted the lawyer after the Chief Justice reprimanded him.
TMC took aim
"But what else can we expect from a half-time lawyer and full-time BJP worker who thinks the decency of the court, like everything else under his regime, can be demolished? Today, the Hon'ble Chief Justice rightly pulled him up for his misconduct," the party wrote in a post on the social media platform.
Earlier, while hearing the Kolkata rape case, the Supreme Court has asked the CBI to file a new report in the case next Tuesday.
