New Delhi: This time the havoc of extreme heat has been seen across the country. The month of September has started, but people are still suffering from the humid heat in many states of the country. This year the highest global temperature ever was recorded in summer in North India, which broke last year's record.
The European Union's climate monitor has given this information and it is being said that this year the highest temperature has ever been recorded on the earth. Data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service traces the weather of heat waves around the world, which scientists say has intensified due to human-induced climate change.
What does the report say?
Copernicus Deputy Director Samantha Burgess said in a report on the heat, 'The last three months of 2024, from June to August, have experienced the hottest days on record and the hottest boreal summer on record.
In June and August, global temperatures exceeded the 1.5C mark on average, a critical threshold for limiting the worst impacts of climate change.
Why did this happen this year?
Let us tell you that human-caused greenhouse gas emissions are warming the planet, increasing the likelihood and intensity of climate disasters like droughts, fires and floods.
Bucking the global trend, Alaska, the eastern United States, parts of South America, Pakistan and the Sahel desert region of North Africa had below average temperatures in August, the report said.
But others such as Australia - where it was winter - China, Japan and parts of Spain experienced record heat in August.
Globally, August 2024 matched the previous global temperature record for that month from a year earlier, while this June was warmer than the last, the Copernicus data in the report showed.
