New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested 11 Bangladeshi nationals from the border while they were trying to infiltrate into India. News agency PTI quoted the BSF as saying that these Bangladeshi nationals were caught while trying to infiltrate into India through the international border in West Bengal, Tripura and Meghalaya.
A BSF spokesperson said that the arrested people are being questioned and preparations are being made to hand them over to the state police for further legal action. The spokesperson said that the BSF is in regular touch with its counterpart BGB to resolve mutual issues, especially to prevent atrocities on Indian citizens and people of minority communities in Bangladesh.
BSF held security review meeting
The BSF's South Bengal Frontier said in a statement that its Eastern Command chief, Additional Director General (ADG) Ravi Gandhi on Saturday chaired an operational conference to review security along the 4,096-km long Indo-Bangladesh border amid the prevailing unrest in Bangladesh and the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
The statement said that 11 Bangladeshi nationals were caught at the border while infiltrating into India. Of these, two were caught from West Bengal, two from Tripura border and seven from Meghalaya border. The arrested people are being questioned and will be handed over to the state police for further legal action.
BSF ADG (Eastern Command) Ravi Gandhi chaired a meeting on Saturday to review security along the border, the spokesperson said.
