
News Topical, Digital Desk : India is continuously striving to further strengthen its defense sector. In this regard, the government has decided to invest ₹79,000 crore in military equipment to enhance the strength of the three armed forces.
The Defence Acquisition Council ( DAC ) met today under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh . The meeting approved several procurement plans for the Air Force, Navy , and Army. The approvals covered the purchase of new missile systems, high mobility vehicles, naval surface guns , and other equipment for the armed forces.
Military equipment worth Rs 79,000 crore will be purchased.
After the meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that for the Indian Army, the procurement of Nag Missile System ( Tracked) Mk - II (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System ( GBMES) and High Mobility Vehicles ( HMVs) with Material Handling Cranes has been approved today.
The tracked NAMIS will improve the Army's ability to destroy enemy fighter aircraft, bunkers , and other field defenses, while the GBMES will gather intelligence on enemy emissions 24 hours a day.
Navy 's strength will increase further
Procurement of Landing Platform Docks ( LPD), 30 mm Naval Surface Gun, Advanced Light Weight Torpedo , Electro-Optical Infrared Search and Track System and smart ammunition for 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mount has been approved for the Navy .
The Landing Platform Dock will enable the Indian Navy to conduct joint amphibious operations . These platforms can also be deployed for peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
The Advanced Light Weight Torpedo is an indigenous system developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO ) . It can target small submarines .
Decision to increase the strength of the three armies
The meeting also approved the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation / Destruction System ( CLRTS/DS) for the Air Force along with other proposals.
