News Topical, Digital Desk : The death toll in the coal mine blast in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district has risen to 30, with two more people succumbing to their injuries in hospital on Tuesday. Both were residents of Katigorah in Assam's Cachar district and were undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

According to a health department official, two people injured in the coal mine explosion died at SMCH Hospital on Monday night. They were identified as Ramchandra Baishnab and Nimaruddin. A total of nine injured miners were admitted to SMCH after the February 5 incident.

The blast occurred at an illegally operated coal mine in the remote Thangsku area of Mynsangt village, bordering Meghalaya. The Meghalaya government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident to determine the circumstances of the blast and determine responsibility.
The Assam government has announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of each deceased in the state. At least eight workers from the state's Cachar district have died in the incident so far.
