News Topical, Digital Desk : Following the Supreme Court's recent order regarding the Shastri Nagar Housing Scheme in Meerut, the area is in a state of chaos. The court has taken a tough stance on the issue of commercial activities in residential buildings and violations of setback rules. The Supreme Court has directed the Housing Development Board to ensure setbacks on 860 plots as per the established regulations. The court has clearly stated that if the plot owners do not vacate the illegal portions within 15 days, the Board will take action and demolish the constructions. Furthermore, the cost of this entire action will be recovered from the homeowners.

There is also a ban on shops running in homes.

The court ordered the immediate closure of shops and other commercial activities operating in residential areas. Following this, many large businesses have begun making changes to their buildings to comply with regulations and avoid action.

This order is affecting families from the Weaker Income Group (EWS) the most. These families say their houses are only 35 to 40 square meters. Therefore, if the setback is implemented, the entire house could collapse.

40-year-old homes are now in danger.

According to local residents, they purchased these houses in installments under a government scheme about 40 years ago. Now, this sudden action threatens to take away their homes, forcing them onto the streets.

Distressed by the situation, women in the area have taken to the streets for the past seven days. They are protesting with posters about migration and demanding relief from the government. They say that in addition to enforcing the rules, a solution should also be found for the poor so that they are not left homeless.
