News Topical, Digital Desk : Gangs that cheat in the name of education are now being caught by the police. The case is from the Kalyanpur police station area of Kanpur, where the police took major action and arrested two young men involved in online fraud. Kalyanpur police have exposed an interstate gang that defrauded people of lakhs of rupees in the name of providing MBBS seats. In this case, the police have arrested two vicious fraudsters from West Bengal and sent them to jail.
Such open fraud
The arrested accused, identified as Saurav and Jayant, were apprehended by a police team in West Bengal. These cunning fraudsters duped a student by promising him an MBBS seat and extorted a hefty sum of ₹575,000. After receiving the money, the student realized he had been duped when he neither received the seat nor found any trace of the fraudsters.
- Amount defrauded – ₹5,75,000 (five lakh seventy five thousand rupees)
- Arrest – Sourav and Jayant arrested from West Bengal.
- Action: The accused were sent to jail by Kalyanpur police.
Accused arrested from West Bengal
Kalyanpur Police Station in-charge and trainee IPS officer Sumedh Jadhav, providing details about the case, said that a case was registered a few days ago based on the victim's complaint. With the help of the police's cyber cell and surveillance team, the location of the fraudsters was tracked, after which the team went to West Bengal and arrested them.
Police are now investigating how many more students have been victimized by this gang. The Kanpur Commissionerate Police have appealed to the public to be wary of any unknown calls or advertisements soliciting money for admissions.
