News Topical, Digital Desk : A tragic accident occurred at Bengaluru's Kengeri Metro Station on Friday. A man jumped in front of a metro train, briefly disrupting services on the Purple Line. According to reports, the man was waiting for the metro train at the station. As soon as the metro arrived, he jumped onto the tracks and was hit by it. Security personnel immediately arrived at the scene. The man died in the accident.

Metro services on Purple Line affected

Metro officials said the identity of the deceased is being ascertained. Police say the deceased is approximately 35-40 years old. No identification was found at the scene, but he was carrying a mobile phone and some cash.

The incident occurred at 8:15 a.m. Police, along with a paramedical team, immediately removed the body from the tracks. Following the incident, services on the Purple Line from Mysore Road to Challaghatta were temporarily suspended. Services were later restored. "Services between Gyan Bharati and Challaghatta have been fully restored as of 9:40 a.m.," the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said in a post on X. "Train operations on the entire Purple Line are now operating as per normal schedule." 

Trouble for passengers

The shutdown of services during peak hours inconvenienced thousands of commuters. Similar incidents are being reported frequently at Bengaluru Metro stations. Five such incidents were reported in 2024 on the Purple Line alone. (With language inputs)
