inhuman punishment

The student's mother has alleged that her daughter died as a result of "inhuman punishment" meted out to her by her teacher, who forced her to do sit-ups with her school bag on her back, which she could not tolerate.

An official from the Valiv police station said the teacher has been removed from the private school in Sativali, Vasai. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against him under the Indian Penal Code.

The police officer said the 13-year-old student was unwell and could not tolerate the punishment given at school. Her condition deteriorated. She was then taken to a hospital in Mumbai, where she died seven days later.

Following the death of the innocent student, local residents and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists protested, prompting police to file a case. Police arrested the teacher on Tuesday night, officials said. The Education Department has taken action following the incident. The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has also launched an investigation.
