News Topical, Digital Desk : Taking a major step towards strengthening India's maritime security, Adani Defence & Aerospace on May 18 entered into a strategic partnership with US company Sparton. Sparton, a group company of Elbit Systems, will now help Adani assemble Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) systems in India.
Now high-tech systems like Sonobuoy will be made in India itself
Under this partnership, Sonobuoys and other anti-submarine warfare systems will be manufactured in India. This initiative is being taken under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' campaigns. This is the first time that a private company in India will provide indigenously made Sonobuoy solutions to the Navy.
What is Sonobuoy and why is it important?
Sonobuoy is a state-of-the-art device that helps to detect, locate and track enemy submarines under the sea. It enhances the 'Undersea Domain Awareness' capabilities of the Indian Navy. This system is extremely important for naval security, patrolling and protection of carrier strike groups.
Till now India had to import this technology from abroad, which led to dependence on foreign companies. But now Adani Defence will develop this technology within the country itself.
An example of self-reliance set under 'Make in India'
Sparton is already working with the Indian Navy and now under this new partnership, Adani Defence will provide them in a completely 'Made in India' form. This initiative will promote self-reliance in the country's defense technology.
Speaking on the occasion, Jeet Adani, Vice President, Adani Enterprises, said, "In today's volatile maritime environment, strengthening India's underwater warfare capabilities is not just a strategic priority but imperative for the sovereignty and security of the nation." He further added that the Indian Navy needs mission-ready and indigenously developed systems that are also globally competitive. Through this partnership with Sparton, Adani Defence will now provide the same solution to the country.
