The answer to this question is mock trading. This means that both platforms are having mock trading sessions today . The stock markets are open on mock trading days, but real money is not traded. Let's learn more about this.

The mock trading sessions held today, April 11, 2026, will be for the equity segment, electronic gold receipts segment, currency derivatives segment, and commodity derivatives segment. This means that mock trading sessions are being held for all segments on April 11, 2026.

NSE-BSE gave information in the circular

BSE and NSE issued a circular on April 10 informing about the mock trading session (Live on NSE BSE). BSE wrote in its circular, “The exchange has scheduled a mock trading session for the commodity derivatives segment on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The notice further stated that members are also requested to refer to Exchange Notice No. 20201201-22, dated December 1, 2020, regarding testing of software used in or related to trading and risk management. Members may participate in either mock trading sessions or UAT environments to meet their regulatory requirements as per SEBI Circular No. SEBI/HO/MRD1/DSAP/CIR/P/2020/234, dated November 24, 2020.

BSE further stated in the circular that trading members who use third-party trading platforms from empanelled vendors, or their own systems built through IML/ETI API, can avail this opportunity to test their respective trading applications for various functionalities, such as risk-reduction mode, trading halts, etc., during the mock trading session.

NSE wrote in its circular- "Due to mock trading on April 11, 2026, the Unique Client Code live environment will not be available from 10 AM to midnight on Saturday, April 12, 2026. Any UCC added or changed during the said time will not be considered valid for the live trading session on Monday, April 13, 2026 and thereafter. These records will be removed from the Exchange's UCC system by the end of the day on April 11, 2026. Keeping the above in mind, members are advised to avoid making any changes/uploads between 10 AM to midnight on Saturday, April 11, 2026."
