News Topical, Digital Desk : French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday reappointed his outgoing Prime Minister, Sebastien Lecornu, to his post, just four days after Lecornu resigned.

Both allies and the opposition had been hoping for a new face in the government to break the months-long deadlock over the austerity budget, but Macron reappointed 39-year-old Lecornu.

Political turmoil erupts in France

"The President of the Republic has named Sebastien Lecornu as Prime Minister and tasked him with forming a government," the Elysee Palace said. France has been mired in political deadlock since Macron gambled on calling snap elections last year, which he hoped would consolidate power but instead led to uncertainty in parliament and a surge in seats for the right.

What did Lecornu say?

Following the Elysee's announcement, Lecornu said on X that he accepted the mission "out of duty." "We have to end the political crisis," he said. He pledged to do everything possible to deliver France a budget by the end of the year and said restoring public finances remains a priority for our future.

Macron, facing the worst domestic crisis since the start of his presidency in 2017, has yet to address the public. Lecornu's reappointment was met with outrage.
