Lucknow police have arrested two accused in this case, one of whom was shot in the leg, while the other remains at large. The government urgently needs to take effective steps to prevent this. Forget about women's respect, women's safety is paramount. Following Mayawati's statement, questions are being raised about the Yogi government's law and order situation and women's safety in the state.

What is the Banthra gang rape case?

On Saturday afternoon at around 12 noon, a minor student from the Banthra area left her home to visit her sister. She was accompanied by a friend. Some young men beat up the friend and chased her away, taking the student to a secluded area. Under the influence of alcohol, the accused, Vishal Gupta, Rajendra Kashyap alias Babu, Meraj, Lalit Kashyap, and Shiv Kashyap, gang-raped her. The victim returned home around 5 pm and informed her family.

Two arrested so far

The police acted swiftly in this case, not only registering a case and providing medical attention to the victim, but also arrested two of the accused in a shootout on Saturday night. One of the accused, Lalit, was shot in the leg, while Meraj was arrested from another police station area. Police are conducting a search operation for the third accused.
