News Topical, Digital Desk : When US President Donald Trump's second term began, the world's richest man Elon Musk was seen as his senior advisor. Along with this, Trump also appointed Musk as a special government officer by making him the head of DOGE.

Recently, Musk's tenure as DOGE chief ended and with this he also stepped down from the post of Trump's advisor. Since then, the rhetoric between the two is at its peak and now the animosity between the two has started coming out in the open.

The friendship between the two was once very deep, but now the situation has changed and both are now attacking each other on a public platform. This entire dispute includes personal attacks, political threats and billions of dollars of financial loss to Tesla.

How did Trump and Musk become friends?

  • The friendship between Trump and Musk reached its peak when an attempt was made to assassinate Trump in Pennsylvania in July 2024.
  • In the US presidential election, Elon Musk had announced his full support to Republican candidate Donald Trump.
  • Musk also joined Trump in the election campaign and started raising the slogan Make America Great Again.
  • Trump was inaugurated as president on Jan. 20, and the following February, Musk wrote on Instagram: “I love Donald Trump about as much as a simple man can love another man.
  • In the early days of the Trump administration, the Tesla CEO became the most public face of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
  • In his final Oval Office press conference on May 31, Trump praised Musk, calling him “one of the greatest business leaders the world has ever seen.”

When did the dispute start?

  • The feud came to the surface on June 5 when Trump accused Musk of trying to sabotage the bill by eliminating the electric vehicle tax credit.
  • Musk said on June 6 - This bill was not shown to me even once and was passed so fast in the dark of night that almost no one in Congress could even read it.
  • The rift between the two then deepened on a personal level when Musk said Trump had ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
  • Musk also posted a poll on X asking whether he should start a new political party for the 80% of people in the middle class.
  • Musk then went on to support calls for Trump's impeachment and his replacement with JD Vance.
  • Elon Musk also warned that Trump's global tariffs would cause a recession in the second half of this year.

Tesla shares fell

Following Musk's continued rhetoric, Trump threatened to end government contracts and subsidies for Musk's companies. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I don't mind Elon going against me, but he should have done so months ago.”

Tesla's shares fell more than 14% following Trump's remarks, resulting in a loss of about $152 billion in market value and a loss of $8.73 billion to Musk's personal wealth.
