Specialty of Bonderam Festival

Bonderam Festival is one of the most attractive festivals of Goa, participating in which gives an opportunity to know Goa's history and culture closely. This festival is organized on Divar Island, about 12 kilometers away from Panjim city and tourists from not only India but the world come to see it. This year this festival was celebrated in Malar on 17 August and now it will be celebrated on 24 August in Divar Island.

Meaning of Bonderam 

Bonderam, a Portuguese word meaning flag, is a reminder of the time when the people of the island protested against the Portuguese rulers, leading to conflict and tension. During the protest, the locals staged mock battles by tearing down flags to express their anger. The protest has now turned into a joyous festival and has become a hallmark of the culture here. 

The float parade is the main attraction

The main attraction of this festival is the float parade, in which you can see the creativity and artistic talent of the people here.

You can see it. Apart from this, tableaux are also made on topics related to Goa's folk tales, mythology and important issues. The decoration of these tableaux is  worth seeing .
