A study on diabetes diet made a surprising revelation that if potatoes are baked, then it can help in managing the symptoms of diabetes. This study has worked to break this myth related to potatoes that has been going on for years.

The study, led by Assistant Professor Neda Akhavan at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), challenged the common belief that potatoes are considered unhealthy. Professor Neda said that if potatoes are cooked properly, it can benefit health instead of harming it. The people included in this study were given baked potatoes in their diet every day. In a few days, their fasting blood sugar level was seen to decrease, along with a reduction in waist size and heart rate.

Is potato peel also beneficial?

Potato peels also have many health benefits hidden in them. Studies have found that potato peels contain resistant starch, which works to boost glucose levels , lipid profile and feeling of fullness. People involved in the research who also ate potato peels, their health improved in many ways.

Another thing that came to light in this research done at Nevada University is that potatoes contain more potassium than bananas. Which along with maintaining heart health, also regulates blood pressure. If you eat baked potatoes, then your stomach will remain full for a long time. Therefore, even if you are trying to lose weight, baked potatoes can be useful for you. This will save you from feeling hungry every now and then and you will eat less.
