News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia passed away yesterday. Her funeral will take place today. Her body will be buried next to her husband and former President Ziaur Rahman.

Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and three-time Prime Minister of Bangladesh, died at the age of 80. She had been undergoing treatment for a long illness. However, news of her death in Dhaka on Tuesday sent shockwaves across the country.

Decision taken in the meeting

According to legal advisor Asif Nazrul, Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest today, Wednesday. She will be buried after the Zuhr prayer at the South Plaza of Parliament and the adjacent Manik Mian Avenue.

A special meeting of the Yunus government's advisory council was held at the state guesthouse, after which Nazrul announced that Khaleda Zia would be buried next to the grave of her husband, Ziaur Rahman. Khaleda Zia's funeral procession will be held with state honors at Zia Udyan in Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Foreign Minister will also visit Dhaka

Several foreign leaders, including Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, will attend Khaleda Zia's funeral. According to an official statement issued by the Indian government, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Dhaka today.

3-day state mourning declared

Interim government chief Mohammad Yunus has declared three days of state mourning for Khaleda Zia's death. He has also announced a one-day holiday for the funeral prayers.
